Today was a travel day to Te Anau. Our route took us west to Riverton then north. When Murray saw our route he suggested that they drive out that way so they could show us Riverton, where they have a holiday home, and we could have lunch together before travelling on. It was another beautiful sunny day. Before we left they toured us around their property. I forgot to mention that yesterday we got to the cow shed just as the afternoon milking was finishing up.
There was also much excitement as the military is retiring their Hercules airplanes, so they are doing a farewell tour of the country. They landed in Invercargill last night and took off this morning. We could see them off in the distance from the farm.
We saw lots of roaring surf, lots more farmland and sheep. It costs more to shear a sheep than what the wool is worth. The meat is worth more than the wool, and dairy cattle are more lucrative than sheep.
We stopped at the Clifden suspension bridge for a break.
